The Best Albums of 2009

Notes:

I set forth a few rules for doing this you might want to know. If not, feel free to skip this boring stuff and get to the goodness below. Otherwise, please read rules below.

  • no compilations, live recordings, re-releases, etc.
  • electronic (primarily) and/or instrumental albums have a seperate list (see below)
  • starting this year, each end of year list may contain albums released over last 15 months. this is to account for amazing releases which occur near the end of the year and may “slip through the cracks.”
  • Once an album is rated, it may not appear on a subsequent list, regardless of whether it remains in 15 month window.

this the jam: vol. 1

Sometimes all the stars just align and things fall together. About 8 months ago my friend Eric asked me to put together a new dance mix for him. After working a bit and then taking an extended break (and subsequently forgetting about it), I was recently reminded about it by my friend Jessica (founder of this the jam). Around the same time a dj friend of mine sent me a 42 minute mix, his first public mix 12 years AND another friend asked me if I was interested in sharing a night at a local coffee shop to do some split dj sets. Yet another friend asked me for some electronic music recommendations and I sent him a years old dj set which he really liked.

It was evident the universe was trying to tell me something. Last night I sat down and spent about three hours planning my latest mix. I combined all the elements of each of these events and created a 42 minute dj set consisting of my favorite electronic music from the last few years, titled “this the jam: vol. 1″ and you can download or stream it using the following link:

2010 has come, and so we are blasted with tons of best of year / best of decade lists… albums, songs (paste actually has created enough lists to make you want to vomit a little), etc.  Frankly, I haven’t seen one list I can wholly identify with yet, so here’s the official Snowdenology best albums of the decade list for you. This is the result of almost two months of intermittent work, and most recently – hours upon hours of banging head into desk, blurry vision, laughing, crying, and listening to albums over and over going a bit mad to be quite honest. Hope you enjoy!

Notes:

I set forth a few rules for doing this you might want to know. If not, feel free to skip this boring stuff and get to the goodness below. Otherwise, please read rules below.

  • No compilations.
  • No covers records.
  • No EPs.
  • Instrumental and electronic (primarily) records will have their own list (coming soon).
  • Order will never be perfect, just try to get it as close as possible.

New Tales To Tell – Limited Red & Blue Vinyl

As reported previously, the vinyl version of this Love & Rockets tribute (featuring Snowden’s cover of No Words No More) is a limited edition Red & Blue 12″. This is out now on Justice Records, and we now know the pressing is just 1000 copies. Grab them while you can, I just did a quick search and found buying two copies got me free shipping at Tower.

And We’re Live

So, here we are. Just moments ago I unlocked the front door to snowdenology.net and welcomed you all to view the initial results of my study of all things Snowden: snowdenology. The main portions of this site are as follows.

Some Songs Your Mother Sang:  A study of all the many wonderful songs of Snowden. In this section you will currently find lyrics, writing / performing credits, and live performances. Initially clicking a song will show all the different versions of that song. By clicking on a particular version you will get the detailed results including lyrics and live versions of that particular version. At this time, as you will notice, many songs are missing lyrics. This will be fixed very soon. There is also a search tool available to find songs containing a provided search criteria. The search will soon be upgraded to inclue more options. Also coming soon, expanded “versions” results for song listing including information / cross references for releases containing that version.

Stay At Home: This is the live performances section of the site. Here you will be able to view information on Snowden live performances past, present, and future. Detailed information including venues, events, and setlists [when available] are provided. Also available is a search utlitity with several options [more coming soon]. I am currently seeking more setlist information, so if you have anything you would like to contribute please email me: breathmint@snowdenology.net.

Discog: Here you will find information on releases by Snowden, including albums, singles, compilations, etc. Physical and digital releases are included and when mutiple versions of a release exist, details for each version are given. Note that as with other portions of the site, information is cross-linked wherever possible. This means when viewing a tracklisting for a release, you can click on the song to jump to that “SSYMS” entry for it. Expanded discography features including search and pictures are coming very soon.

This is simply the intial rollout of snowdenology.net and you will be seeing many changes coming soon. I hope you enjoy what you see, and if you have anything to contribute please let me know by email: breathmint@snowdenology.net.

Enjoy!
